Key art design
Key art developed for shows at DTLA’s iconic Mark Taper Forum and Culver City’s gem, the Kirk Douglas Theatre. I read the script to understand the tone and style of the story and make note of themes, imagery, and collect images before finally creating the artwork.
About Primary Trust:
Kenneth, a 38-year-old bookstore worker in a small upstate New York town, spends his evenings sipping Mai Tais at the local tiki bar with his best friend Bert. When he’s suddenly laid off, Kenneth faces challenges he has long avoided—with transformative and heart-warming results. Primary Trust is a touching story of new beginnings, old (and new) friends, and finding the courage to see the world for the first time.
For the key art, an actor had not yet been cast so the challenge was to have artwork that could still convey the feeling of the show without an image of Kenneth.
The key art of this dark comedy was developed as a true group effort: asking coworkers to pretend to be teenagers trying to summon up a ghost while we take photos of them. When we finally landed on what we thought worked the best, the cast was asked to re-create it and we had our key art for the show’s Los Angeles premiere.
About Our Dear Dead Drug Lord:
In this fierce and feverish comedy from breakout playwright Alexis Scheer, a gang of teenage girls gathers in an abandoned treehouse to summon the ghost of Pablo Escobar. Are they messing with the actual spirit of the infamous cartel kingpin? Or are they really just messing with each other?
Not only was this a world premiere, but at the time, the script had not been finalized. All we had to work with was a draft, themes of identity, mistaken identity, and the playwright liking the idea of legos.
About Fake It Until You Make It:
A bold world premiere comedy from Los Angeles-based playwright, Larissa FastHorse and director Michael John Garcés, produced in association with Arena Stage. Fake It Until You Make It is about being whoever you want to be, even when it’s not who you are. In her uproarious new comedy, a collision of friends and foes within the non-profit sector sets the stage for a whirlwind of competition, chaos, and comedic revelation.
